What is Pukar Helpline?

Pukar is a free emotional support and suicide prevention helpline. We offer a safe, non-judgmental space where you can share your feelings without fear. Our trained volunteers provide support in both English and Hindi.

Who can call Pukar?

Anyone who is feeling overwhelmed, distressed, or struggling with their mental health can call us. We also welcome those who are worried about someone they care about and need a listening ear.

What to Expect When You Call Pukar’s Helpline?

When you call Pukar’s helpline, you will be connected with a trained volunteer who is there to listen, support, and provide a safe space for you to share your distress. You don’t have to feel alone. We are here for you. Here’s What You Can Expect: ✔ A Safe & Confidential Space – Your call is private and non-judgmental. You can talk freely, knowing that your feelings will be respected. ✔ A Compassionate Listener – Our volunteers are trained to listen with empathy, not to judge or offer solutions. We won’t tell you what to do, but we will support you as you express your thoughts and feelings. ✔ No Pressure or Expectation – You don’t have to share anything you’re not ready for. You can share as much or as little as you want. ✔ Support Without Judgment – Whether you are feeling stressed, overwhelmed, lonely, or having thoughts of suicide, we are here to listen with care and understanding. ✔ You Stay in Control – You decide if and when to call during our working hours. We won’t follow up or track your details. You are always free to reach out again whenever you need support. Pukar’s helpline is a place where you can feel heard, valued, and less alone. No matter what you're going through, we are here to listen.

When is Pukar available?

Our helpline is open every day from 10 AM to 2 PM (IST). Whenever you need to talk, we are here for you.

Is my conversation confidential?

Absolutely. Your privacy is important to us. What you share with us stay between you and Pukar. You are safe to speak freely.

What kind of support does Pukar provide?

We offer emotional support through active listening and empathy in times of distress. We are not a professional therapy service, but we can help you explore your feelings, find ways to cope.

Will I be judged or told what to do?

Not at all. Our approach is about listening, not instructing. We provide a compassionate space where you can talk openly without fear of being judged or given unsolicited advice.

Can I call on behalf of someone else?

We understand that you care deeply about your loved one’s well-being, and it can be hard to see them struggle. However, we respect each person’s right to seek support in their own way. And since we respect individual choice and confidentiality, we do not make calls on someone else’s behalf. Instead, we encourage you to gently suggest that they reach out to us themselves.

Can you call and support someone I am worried about?

What if I’m in immediate danger?

If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, please seek emergency help right away. While we are here to listen and support you emotionally, we are not a crisis intervention service. Please reach out to emergency services if you are at immediate risk.

Is there a charge for calling Pukar?

No, our helpline is completely free. You don’t need to worry about any costs when reaching out to us.

How are Pukar’s volunteers trained?

Our volunteers undergo thorough training in active listening, emotional support, and suicide prevention. They are compassionate individuals who are here to listen and walk alongside you during tough times.
